Beerventure – Brussels – Délirium Café

You really think I could write about Brussels and not mention Delirium Cafe or moules-frites? Yeah, me neither.

However short your trip might be when visiting Brussels the place to be is Délirium Café. Delirium Cafe is known for its “phonebook” like beer list. I’m not kidding, this thing is monstrous. Located only a short distance from the Grand Place, with over 3,000 beers commercially available for purchase it holds a Guinness Book of World Record. Once arriving the choice to make is up or down given Delirium Cafe has three floors of beer greatness.  Always busy, always a great time. In addition, beers are offered from over 60 countries. My excitement was seeing how well American craft beers were represented throughout the establishment in stickers, signs, drafts lines, and bottles. Although, coming to the Delirium Cafe and not enjoying a Delirium Tremens beer seemed sacrilegious, so that was first on my list! I have had this beer many times before, but there is something to be said for a beer that doesn’t experience a rigorous trip across the sea. Make sure to try some specialty beers and take in the ambiance, it’s an incredible place and if you’re not careful you’ll waste away in this place.

Dragging ourselves away (for the moment) it was time to get something to eat, and what better dish than some mussels in Brussels?  I couldn’t possibly sell you on a place to enjoy this dish, as there are so many. There will be however someone out on the street offering you the world to take a seat and enjoy dinner with them. My recommendation, no matter where you go, ask for the garlic sauce! Our meal was incredible and that’s not only because we had a few drinks. We took in the moment, relaxed, enjoyed, and considered where to go next. Hmmm, back to Delirium Cafe it is!

I had no intention of ending this trip, but as they say “all good things must come to an end.” So, as I sat with my friend Darrin, considering all of the experiences we’ve had during our time on this trip, we couldn’t help but allow one pulsating thought to keep running thought our head. We imagined the life of those that have come before us. We didn’t even need to reach that deep. Our Grandmother’s for instance, in order to organize get togethers with grade school friends needed to write and mail letters, and in central Pennsylvania even take a horse and buggy!

Here I persisted, experiencing four countries in five days, Oktoberfest with old friends, a bottle share in Brasserie Cantillon with new friends, and leaving with new perspective. All which never would have been possible in another moment in time. These are the possibilities in the time we live, this is our life! You only have so many tomorrows. My encouragement, start now! Happy travels!

Cheers!
